In Troy, Pitt plays Achilles the famous Greek warrior. The movie is an adaptation of Homer’s famous novel the Iliad, and is set during the late Bronze age around the year 1250 B.C. The story is about two clashing tribes in Greece during this time, the Spartans and the Trojans. The tribes had always been in conflict, but Paris who was a Trojan prince, convinced Helen who was queen of Sparta, to leave her husband and come back to Troy with him to be his wife. So, Helen sails back to Troy with Paris and leaves her husband Menelaus who was really upset about what happened. So instead of talking about things, Sparta wages war on the Trojans and Menelaus wants to make sure than Helen dies a gruesome death because if she’s not with him, then she cant be with anyone. So, he asks his brother who is the great Agamemnon to help him wage the war. Agamemnon agrees, but only because he has the ulterior motive to gain power for himself over the region. Subsequently, the two rally one thousand ships holding 50,000 Greeks to Troy to wage the war. Before this war is waged, the Trojans had never lost a war, but with the help of Achilles, the Spartans have a chance because Achilles is one of the best warriors who ever lived and is half god. There is an ironic ending to the long battle scene between the two warring nations that you will have to watch the movie to find out the ending. Or, read the book the Iliad or open a Greek history book.
The movie also stars al lot of other well-known actors who do a great job in the movie. For instance, Eric Bana plays the admirable Hector, who is another prince or Troy and brother to Pairs, who is played by Orlando Bloom. To mention some of the other actors, the beautiful Diane Kurger plays Helen, Peter O’Toole plays the king of Troy, and Brian Cox plays Agamemnon. In 2004 at the time when the movie was released, the special effects were groundbreaking and people flocked to the cinemas to watch the movie. Now, you can watch in the comfort of your own home in HD and enjoy the great cinematic qualities that people used to only be able to enjoy in the theatre. So when you get home from work and you want to watch a Brad Pitt movie, record Troy and enjoy.
