My main computer has a bad virus, and I have bought several virus removers. They haven’t worked. If i replace

the hard drive and put new Windows on it, will it get rid of it? It has several trojans, I know vundo is one of them. Thanks!!
Well, DUH of course I can go buy a new computer, but the whole idea is trying to keep from buying a new computer – considering this one IS new. These are bad viruses that I can obviously not get rid of. Bought several anti virus, nothing works. I just need to know if I replace the hard drive will that get rid of it, or do they get embedded somewhere in the comp?

Virus designers love to have their little bad guys go into your System Restore area, as they know that anti virus programs don’t go there to check and remove the bad guys…. If you are still plagued with bad guys after running several checks, then most likely you have one or more in your System Restore….

Hold down the Windows key and tap the Pause/Break key, on the System Restore tab click to turn off System Restore (that will wipe out all of your restore points and wipe out those bad guys)….. Now run your anti virus and anti spyware programs to get your whole hard drive clean……. Then with a clean system, turn on System Restore and reboot your computer…. Now you are clean, and now you have a clean System Restore point and all bad guys are gone…..

Now you can do a double check on your particular AV program by going to http://www.housecall.trendmicro.com and running their free “Housecall” online check for virus and malware…. You should be clean… If you are not, then you know it is time to get a different anti virus program.

The old fashioned way of totally wiping your hard drive, then reinstalling all of your programs and operating system, might have been helpful back with Win98, but later operating systems are designed to avoid that ugly way of doing things…

If your current hard drive is doing you well, as far as size and free space, no need to waste your money on a new drive and certainly no need to go thru all the headaches of doing a full reinstall of everything after you have backed up each and every bit of your data (and hopefully don’t have a bad guy hiding within that data backup)….. “No need to throw out the baby when all you need to do is change the bath water” is an old saying that comes to mind when thinking of the overkill of buying a new disk and may/or may not successfully reinstall all your programs, data, and operating system…….
